EZ Plate / Relief / Quarto Theme — Moonlight
Step 1. Drafting

Use carbon paper to trace the image onto the block.
Use a 6B pencil to draw gently so the image can be transferred onto the block.
Note: Excessive pressure will cause dents on the block.
Step 2. Block Engraving
Use various tools to work on the surface and create textures.
For facial areas or large dented areas, using a ballpoint pen may make it difficult to achieve smooth results.
It is recommended to use line-making tools or a flat-cut platen made from wooden chopsticks.

Step 3. Checking the Engraved Surface
In addition to carved notches, there will also be drafting lines on the block, making it look messy.
Use tissue paper dipped in ink to lightly apply over the engraved block.
Then apply prickly heat powder into the dented lines to clearly preview the engraving condition.
Step 4. Refining the Engraving
After completing the engraving, directly use a U-gouge to remove the highlighted areas such as the face, book, and hands.
This helps to emphasize the moonlight effect.
Step 5. Inking
If there are fine lines engraved with needles, it is recommended to use oil-based ink for printing.
Step 6. Imprinting
Carefully adjust the pressure of the printing press.
Lightly press over the plate.
Note: Excessive pressure may flatten the plate.
Step 7. Printing Setup
For relief printing, EVA (foam board) can be used instead of wool felting.
This helps achieve clearer and more delicate lines.

Step 8. Completion
The work is completed.
