N.S.P techniques--Tonal performance
N.S.P Tonal Performance
Let us introduce more about N.S.P.
We can use drawing pressure to create different tonal levels. However, most children find it difficult to control their drawing pressure.
So, instead of relying only on pressure, we can use pencils of different hardness to achieve depth in the picture.
The principle is very simple:
-
The harder the pencil, the darker the color.
-
The softer the pencil, the lighter the color.
This is the opposite of normal pencil drawing.
However, please pay special attention:
If the pencil is too soft when engraving, the printing effect will be too light and unclear.
It is recommended not to use pencils softer than 3B.
Although soft pencils can produce a gray tone, N.S.P. will not print clearly if the drawing pressure is too light, especially when using pencils softer than 3B.
Sandpaper Density and Its Effect
In addition, different sandpaper densities will produce different effects.
Usually, I suggest students:
-
Use #600 sandpaper with a 6H pencil to draw the outline of the theme (black and darker areas).
-
Use #200 sandpaper with 2B or HB pencils for color blocks or background processing to enrich the tone and emphasize the theme.
The following is an example of N.S.P. tonal performance for reference.
